28th. May 2004 Dear Julia, I am so pleased with the progress I have made since being a student and also the quality of the courses. I have learned so much, and along the way I have written my own Diabetes Plan, which I would like to bring to the National Health Service. I was so excited and overwhelmed by my Grade A in Sports Nutrition, and Basic and Advanced Nutrition and to think at one point I was going to give up! Thank you Julia for always being there at the other end of the phone when I needed to speak to you, and thanks to all my tutors too. I have now opened up my own practice in Nutritional Therapy, which very quickly took off, and have started a Programme of Awareness talking to Women's Support Groups, Churches and Schools on Nutrition and related disorders. Soon I will be writing for the Local Paper and a Major Magazine. My specialist areas are Diabetes and Weight Loss and I have produced my own website ( www.wholeapproach.co.uk ). I cannot praise the school, staff and yourself highly enough after what you have all done for me, I will even give potential students my phone number if they wish to call me direct at home and speak to a "real person"! December 2003 Hello Claire, A late message from me today, as I have been trying out my massage "technique" on my daughter's bigger soft toys, not ideal, but I'll practice on my husband this weekend when he's home! I feel I have learned so much from this Aromatherapy course, thank you. My answers for Part 4 will follow soon. I did a CPR/First Aid course a few years ago and I will be doing a refresher early next year (they are organised here in the town every few months). I feel strongly that it is something everyone should re-do every few years. I'm really looking forward to studying your Advanced Aromatherapy course. I won't be rushing that one - this cramming study style I've done these past few weeks reminds me of my university days (not a good memory!). However I feel that, this way, I have dived into the subject now and the unknown world is becoming more approachable and more and more fascinating. 1st. October 2003 Dear Julia, I hope you are well. As for myself I am in good health and enjoying my new venture. What new venture? Well this is my story. A few weeks ago my friend Lisa went for a job interview at a new purpose built care home. She asked me to accompany her for moral support. The interview was very informal, more like a chat and a tour of the place. There were about fifteen vacancies for care assistants and one for a qualified aromatherapist. I mentioned that I had recently qualified though SNHS and was offered the job on the spot. I have 12 ladies in my group at presents. They really look forward to my visits every week. Some of them have arthritis in the hands and fingers; others just need a little bit of pampering i.e tender loving care. My “youngest” client is 97 years old and she is the best. 2003 Hello Julia, Thank you for sending my latest diploma. I am currently in the middle of the lengthy planning application to start a home-based therapy practice for the local community, so there's not too much to report yet. The good news is that I can now include Reflexology as part of this practice - thank you. I have treated a six year old boy (a friend's child) for eczema - every other day for two weeks - using Acupressure, which completely cleared the symptoms. He was just left with a habit of scratching himself, which I understand is slowly diminishing. I exhibited my self-help acupressure tool at London's Vitality Show (Olympia) earlier in the year (since gaining the acupressure diploma), and found I was far more confident in talking with the public, than previous as at shows. I also encountered a visitor who had received acupressure treatment from another stand and who, I could now recognise, had gone into a bad "Healing Crisis". I took her onto my stand, gave her water and got her to relax. I explained the healing crisis to her, and reassured her. She left in a far better condition! Thank you again for that knowledge. 7th. April 2003 Dear Julia, I just wanted to write you and tell you what I have been doing since I finished your Shiatsu Course and have been Certified. I opened my own practice in December of 2002 and joined the Holistic Benefits and Services Group in the United States. I have over 30 Clients that come to me and I am being featured on the local TV News program here in Cincinnati, Ohio. They do a Holistic Segment daily on their News Program and they contacted me and asked if they could do a story on the Benefits of Shiatsu. I have been doing In-Service meetings with Physical Therapists and other Medical Institutions on the benefits of Shiatsu to gain referral clients. I have been working on Sound Therapy and integrating it with the Shiatsu and having great results. I am still working on the Acupressure Course as I have time free. Just to let you know, I have been accepted to study for a Doctoral Degree in Metaphysical Science at the University of Metaphysics in California and I must add, the diploma courses that I studied at the School of Natural Health Sciences played a significant role in my acceptance by the University. I should think that some of the credit must go to yourself and the school (not forgetting Claire), for the way in which the lessons are presented and prepared. They follow a very logical format and are written in such a way that the information is easily learnt. I have participated in courses elsewhere that were so full of unnecessary details, what I call "padding", that they whole process becomes confusing. September 23rd, 2000 Dear Julia, I wish to write a short summary of my career in Complementary Medicine as I think it will encourage and hopefully enthuse old and new students studying with the college. When I first set out to gain a Complementary Health qualification, little did I know of the plethora of colleges that were to offer a prospectus. I was involved in education, study and research projects before studying with the SNHS and I fully understand any student worrying about legitimacy and standard of qualifications. To set the scene for your students, I hold six SNHS diplomas, as well as three higher graduate degree qualifications obtained elsewhere. On entering the industry I wanted to study at my own pace, have reliable support and above all I needed to know the course material was sound and technically correct. Since studying with the college I have carried out 12 months of research which has been vetted by the ethics committee of the NHS. I have designed and developed not only a complete programme for arthritis, which formed the bases of my research programme, but also invented a new nutrient assessment and analysis programme I call Vitaminology. This programme has also been merited by the NHS Primary Care Group and I will be publishing this computer based analysis programme world wide shortly. I now run eight clinics and lecture Complementary Health courses and run workshops at three colleges on a regular basis. There is little doubt that to have achieved all of this required a substantial grounding in the subjects of Complementary Medicine. I obtained that grounding from your college and without a doubt all the courses I have studied, and obtained qualifications in, have helped me in my career to reach where it is today. I do not hesitate to recommend your college or any of the courses, to any prospective student past, present or future. The Knowledge I have gained through your courses has allowed me to present Complementary Medicine to the British Government, the NHS, have my work vetted and merited by the NHS ethics Committee who oversee efficacy and research professionalism as well as helping hundreds of clients through my clinics and the many students who attend my lectures and weekend workshops. May you continue to set the highest standards and offer the best of student support as you have for me. Thank you for your determination of excellence that you always provide.
