I currently work in I.T and late last year I found myself so stressed out with a takeover that was happening and all the hassle that goes with it, that I was at the lowest point I think I've ever been. I never wish to be there again. I ended up taking two days off sick (which I never do) to get myself together and hopefully find some inner strength to carry on fighting when I returned to work. During the summer, when I knew this stress was heading towards me, I sat down in my lovely peaceful garden wondering what on earth I was going to do with my life. Suddenly, I jumped up in a kind of 'eureka' moment and announced to my family that I was going to train to be a Nutritionist, it’s a subject that I've always been interested in, I suffer from IBS myself and I knew I could help other people as I already had done in the past.

I looked around the internet for various courses but never did anything solid about it. I had to find the right course for me, one that was self study so no added pressure and also about the right kind of nutrition. I wanted courses that help peoples' overall health and well being, not just for weight loss. The weird thing was, during my two days off sick, I found the SNHS website and all their wonderful courses and my first day back into work (after a very stressful meeting) I was straight on the phone to the SNHS booking the Basic, Advanced and Higher International Diplomas in Nutrition. It gave me a completely different outlook on my daily life. I even found myself laughing and joking again! No matter what happened at work, I was doing something positive, something for me and had something else to concentrate on rather than the pressures of my job. In May last year, I was made redundant from that job, which was a blessing in disguise as I am now working in the same industry but so far a less stressful job and have a clearer head to concentrate on my studies.

I have now passed my Advanced Nutrition Diploma and my Basic Nutrition Diploma, and am also near to the end of the Basic Aromatherapy course too and I'm loving every minute of it ! I'm already getting my 'nutrition' name out there, with leaflets, business cards etc and am starting to build my website for my Aromatherapy products  www.fizznfoam.co.uk

I am a registered member of the National College of Holistic Medicine and so far, I have been part of an open week twice at a local gym and have been invited back to spend the day there again in April. I’ve taken part in two craft fairs in Scotland where my parents live and have also been asked to join them again in May! I have started to make my own beauty products such as bath bombs and bath salts as part of my Aromatherapy interest using various essential oils to help treat skin complaints that compliment my Nutritional advice. The two subjects work well with one another and I’m finding I will be able to offer a more holistic approach to my therapy.

This is a joint part time venture with my sister Heidi who successfully passed her Aromatherapy diploma with the SNHS in October last year and has been creating her own products for her www.blendedforyou.co.uk website. We are also offering 'girls night in' style parties, with facials and our products and are attending Mind, Body and Spirit and Craft fairs where possible too. We've been very busy so far !

The SNHS have been very supportive along my journey with them so far and I’m hoping to receive a  grade A with my current course as I did with the Basic and Advanced Nutrition. I was over the moon with those emails! I'm also considering studying the Diabetes Risk Assessment and Stress Management courses amongst others, there's no stopping once you've started, you end up hooked! I’d even introduced Heidi to the School, as we both wished to study for the Aromatherapy diploma, so we took advantage of the buy one course get another one free, and paid half each – perfect!

...

So if you’re sitting there wondering whether to study one of the SNHS courses or not, I say go for it. That change in life is there if you want it, go out and get it but sometimes unfortunately it can take something bad to make you see what’s out there. Every cloud has a silver lining? I think so!

...

I'd like to thank the School for all their support in my journey so far.
