               ......................................................... .......................................................................................................

BSc (Hons) SPsychol, SNHS Dip (Psychotherapy and Counselling)

I am a Life and Health Sciences Graduate with a BSc (Hons) degree in Social Psychology and a qualified practitioner through the School of Natural Health Sciences Diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling; I operate a private practice in the Co Antrim village of Ahoghill near Ballymena, Co Antrim Northern Ireland. I also hold a Certificate in Introduction to Counselling from Queens University, Belfast, an OCR Certificate in Counselling Skills, the RSA Certificate in Counselling Skills in the Development of Learning which included utilising a range of counselling skills in order to help others learn or to overcome blocks to their learning. These skills were demonstrated, assessed and accredited, under the supervision of an ocr approved centre, within the work setting of Social Services.

...

I have carried out independent scientific research into Personality and Driver Anger, with the help of Dr Lisa Dorn, Cranfield University and Professor Jerry L. Deffenbacher, Ph.D., Colorado State University; I  have also studied Social Behaviour, Behaviourism and Social Issues, Psychoanalysis and Society, Abnormal, Cognitive and Developmental Psychology.

...

I am covered by professional liability insurance and offer counselling and psychotherapy service for private patients, which is effective for alleviating depression, anxiety and distress.  Also for recovery from painful or traumatic experiences and losses and for achieving personal development and change. EFT (emotional freedom techniques) is also available to my clients.

...

My person-centred approach to counselling is rooted in humanistic philosophy and ensures a confidential, trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship that has an optimistic view of the individual and a belief that each person has the capacity to move in the direction of more fulfilling and satisfying ways of being and living their lives. It is based on each individual finding their own answers and direction, this is achieved when the client is able to understand their own limitations and potential. My decision to take this route to help others came about after I suffered a traumatic event in my own life.

...

I decided to go down this route to help others as I required support in my own life and I am thankful to all those who helped me. As a young girl of 22 and after 14 months of marriage I was the proud mum of a bouncing baby boy only to be widowed the day I came home from hospital with my beautiful son. The hardest task I have ever down was registering my new baby Michaels birth and then registering his daddys death at the same time. Needless to say it took a few years for me to come to terms with my sudden change in circumstances, I went from being a happily married new wife to being a single mum in an instant. Fortunately with the help and support from people just like me it really made a difference when I found others who could empathise with me.

...

In Northern Ireland there is very little emotional support in the form of Counsellors/Psychotherapists for the vast amount of people who have suffered throughout the troubles here, and I believe providing emotional support for those who need it and helping individuals to empower themselves, is the most worthwhile profession I could ever choose.

...

With the current upsurge of interest in emotional health and recent reports that antidepressants have no more effect than a placebo for mildly depressed individuals, many individuals decide on the route of private counselling/therapy. This benefit’s the GP by resulting in less pressure on their time, reduces medication costs, clears the referral route and causes less demand on primary care services.

...

I have now gone on and designed my own website www.therapy-counselling.co.uk and I have helped clients from all over the island of Ireland.

...

I am a member of the British Holistic Medical Association, The National College of Holistic Medicine, Counselling Directory and am also a registered CCC Counsellor who adheres to the IACP code of ethics and practice.

...

I thank The School of Natural Health Sciences, for helping me achieve my Practitioner Diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling, I attained the highest award that SNHS can bestow upon a student, I am also grateful for the advice and guidelines contained in the Opening your Own Practice SNHS course, as it has proved invaluable in helping me set up my thriving private practice.
