Starting My Practise
|
|
After lots of planning with the direction that I hoped to go down, with my
new found SNHS Nutrition Qualifications, I started off as a mobile
therapist, then sought out a place within the local
area to practise from. This was a centre with other Complementary Therapists in practise.
At this point I started advertising, via leaflet drops in all local
supermarkets, door to door, street handouts, libraries, everywhere I
could, and spoke to as many people as I could.
After 3 weeks of sitting waiting, my first 'potential client' rang and
then I soon had to increase my half days to full days. During this time I
kept up my reading and set about trying to achieve the ideas and goals
that I had written in my 'little red book' and continued to read as much
as I could.
It took lots of hard work and looking at my 'business plan' for direction
and continuing to plan and make a note of developments and how I would
continue to progress, knocking ideas that did not work 'on the head' and
bringing forward other plans that I had in mind. After losing all my files through a
computer virus, I was awaiting news of a magazine I had been
pursuing. So I decided to pick up the phone and 'take things in my
own hands' so to speak.
All the chasing and work I had done had come to fruition and I had been
selected to appear on the Expert Panel for Natural Health & Wellbeing
Magazine. I have since gone on to write other articles and this is a route
I shall be pursuing as it fits in nicely with my home environment with a
husband and 3 children, and it also interests me very much.
At the outset I sought the help of a business advisor to 'bounce
things off' and get a little direction, and rounded up some family
members, for 'funds to get me started'.
I learnt that Word-of -Mouth is also very important and that results do
not come overnight, so be prepared to 'hang in and hang on' for quiet
months and for the practise and client base to build. I have also found
that incorporating other complementary business ideas and therapies does
help to attract more people, this is how my client base has been built and
of course it is still developing.
Now I am up and running I can look back on the days mentioned above, a
practise is always developing, it is up to me to identify opportunities as
they present themselves and grasp all of these. |
