My name is Lindsey Thompson; I am a qualified Nurse and Midwife and have worked in the National Health Service (NHS) for fifteen years. I have had a keen interest in complementary therapies through my experiences as a health professional and wanted to gain qualifications in this field.

I chose to study with the School of Natural Health Sciences (SNHS) because they offered me a varied choice of courses which I could work through on a flexible basis and pay for at a competitive rate. I gained qualifications in Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Acupressure and Colour Therapy in 2005. I am currently studying for an advanced qualification through SNHS in Aromatherapy.  The team at SNHS not only offer support from an academic perspective, but provide encouragement and guidance throughout the course work.

Studying through SNHS enabled me to recognise my true potential and direction. I soon realised I would like to work full time as a complementary therapist. It was a huge decision to make, but I felt incredibly inspired, so I left my job in the NHS to concentrate on opening up my own business as a complementary therapist. I have never looked back! The practice is based at home but I also offer treatment to clients in their own home or workplace. This new career has offered me the opportunity to be in control of my working life, to spend valuable time with my family and to do a job which gives me so much pleasure and fulfilment.

Whilst practicing on volunteers during my course, I was offered the chance to provide complementary therapies on a sessional basis at my local hospital, something which I had not expected. None of these changes or opportunities would ever have been possible without the support and encouragement from SNHS.
