I started studying with the School of Natural Health Sciences in 2004, whilst still employed as a Dental Practice Manager, with the intention of adding the skills to my Stress Management Consultant's qualification from a few years ago and setting up my own business. Sadly my mother died on Christmas Day 2004 and I found myself in the position of being sole carer for my father. I continued with my studies, thinking of the future and trying to be positive about an unhappy situation.

In the meantime I met my friend Angela at a "Mind, Body and Spirit" event where we were "drawn" to each other in the coffee shop. We kept in touch and met up for meals on a regular basis. Angela has been involved with various complementary therapies for many years and decided to train as a LighterLife counsellor as a new challenge. She asked me to do some admin work for her new "baby" as I was able to combine this with my caring duties and hopefully in the future I can promote my business ideas along side hers. The nutrition diploma will hopefully be of help in particular as this is of course important with weight loss programmes. The LighterLife programme is for people who are at least three stone overweight. As I write, Angela is carrying out her first information sessions so we are busy setting these up and our feet haven't touched the ground over the last two weeks!

Having completed the Colour Therapy and Nutrition diploma courses as part of the Golden Achievers Package. I am currently studying the SNHS Aromatherapy course and have several more lined up to do after that. I already have a Stress Management Consultant’s qualification and the courses taken through The School of Natural Health Science are adding extra strings to my bow and will enable me to take an holistic approach to my stress management work. During the last year I have become a member of the British Holistic Medical Association and an associate member of the International Colour Association and was already a Member of Associated Stress Consultants.

I am also studying for a Women’s Stress Practitioner qualification as this is the area that I wish to specialise in. Having experienced the stress of running my own business in the past, major surgery, menopause and now caring duties I feel that I can bring quite a lot of life experience to this area!

Although my life has not taken the course I expected over the last few years it is strange to now find myself doing what I have wanted to do for so long as a result of a personal bereavement. If I hadn’t suffered this loss I would possibly still be doing my old nine to five job but now I have been given the opportunity to further my studies and have the time to re-evaluate my life and start to fulfil my dreams.

I am so pleased to have found The School of Natural Health Sciences and I really enjoy doing their courses and I am looking forward to obtaining my other diplomas as I progress.
